Some of you already know that we are working on a rolling chassis for The Northeastern Indiana Racing Museum for display so race fans can see whats under a race car body,as far as the chassis. We are also going to be putting up a sign with it that will have the names of people or businesses that contribute to this project. We are in the process of working with a business in Fort Wayne that does sand blasting and powder coating to see if we can work a deal with them as advertisement for their work.

But there's some parts I still need to complete this project. The parts don't need to be working parts as long as they still look like they work(I think you get the idea) because it will be for display only. We realize that this was a Joe Nemecheck NASCAR Busch Series Chassis, but since our museum is about the local racer we want to keep this chassis looking like a local race car chassis and not add any of the NASCAR parts to the interior.

Here's what I still need: Tach(Hole is 3-1/2 inches in dia.), Racing Seat with cover, 5 or 6 point harness belts(We have been looking for an outdated set), Window net, Fuel cell top plate(We may just make one of those),4- Shocks. I have aquired the brake calipers and rotors and hats from Concept Cars Inc.

If you'd like to contribute to this project please call me at 260-316-0966 or just email me at ksplace1@verizon.net

Keeping with the fact that most smart teams paint their chassis a light color so they can see cracks that might develop we will probably have it powder coated a light color, such as gray(That it is now) or some other light color.

We are thinking of painting the upper and lower control arms, steering rods and shocks a different color so they stand out.

As it stands right now there won't be an engine and tranny installed because that would hide some of the chassis. We have cars that people can see the engines .
I have the fuel cell box cleaned up and primed and the dash sanded and ready for primer. I have taken both of the front spindles off so we can get the right brake rotors installed. Some of the parts I haven't listed I've aquired from A&S Racing(Concept Cars Inc.). Kale Asztalos has been a big help with this project and I'm hoping some other racers can help with the needed parts.

Oh the day after I took this photo I got the leaf blower out and cleaned those leaves up, but when it gets done raining I've got more to blow to the curb.

UPDATE:
I have a tach and water temp & oil pressure gauges.
I have two master cylinders.
I have a gas pedal.
I think we have found a seat through Dick Markle of Rapid Race Cars.

STILL NEED: Two front Brake Rotor hats 2 to 2-1/8 inch offset to fit rotors with 8-holes and 7inch center.
Window net with brackets.
Four Shocks
Outdated Belts

Any parts donated means your name,Racing Name, or Business Name will be put on the sign that will stand next to the "Rolling Chassis" Project as contributors that made this project come true. It could be advertisement for your business. It would also mean with a phone call to me that you could get in free to tour the museums.

The project is coming along nicely. We bought a seat with cover from Dick Markle of Rapid Race Cars and I believe we are gonna be getting four Hoosier tires from him as well.
We still need some outdated belts for the seat. So hey racers look and see if you have some you want to part with.
We got the upper front shock mount sleeves welded in the chassis.
We have taken all the sheet metal off the rear(Except were the fuel cell sits) so people will be able to see the rearend, shocks and springs.
We have a few little things to do to the dash yet.
I had almost forgot this piece, but I also need a gear shift or levers for the hump.
So hey thanks to the help of some local racers it's coming along.

Here's an update on how this project is coming:
I welded the front engine mount plates in place Saturday(11/21/09).
I still have the window net assembly to weld in next week.
I still have some tabs to weld on under the dash next week.
I still have to cut the hole in the hump for the shifter next week.
Looks like we will be taking the chassis to Prostrip in Fort Wayne within the next two weeks(After disassembly) to have it sandblasted and powder coated redish orange.

I still need an outdated 5-point racing harness. I borrowed a set from A&S Racing so I could get my holes drilled and tabs welded in place.
I received the top plate for the fuel cell (11/20/09)

I'm working with a crew member for Steve Wallace in Mooresville,NC. to get the front brake rotor hats(Hopefully).

So hey things are coming along.

I made the shifter today and cut the hole in the tunnel. Just some aluminum work to be done on the dash and it's off to Prostrip in Fort Wayne. I think four people could carry this chassis out and sit it on the trailer. I lifted the whole front end up by myself.

UPDATE 12/2/09: I delivered the "Rolling Chassis" today to Prostrip on W.State Blv. in Fort Wayne,IN. to have it sand blasted and powder coated a redish orange. Talk about the color orange, my visit to Prostrip today was an adventure in itself! Joe Brock owner of Prostrip is a very nice guy.
I saw this woman with orange hair walking around and kinda jokingly said to the secretary hey I think one of your workers got some of the orange powder coating in her hair and she told me to watch what I said about that woman's orange hair because that was the owner's (Joe Brock) Daughter and she's one of the Fort Wayne Roller Derby Girls! Oh My God! the next thing I know here she come's through the door into the hallway where I was waiting. I don't know how tall she is but she's taller than me(5'9") and she is built like the incredible Hulk. The next thing I know the secretary is telling me that Roller Derby girl is gonna kick my butt(actually she used the other word), and I gotta to tell ya I was a little intimidated! I backed the frick up and said I'm sorry real quick. You know the funniest part I forgot to ask her what her stage name is,LOL. I may have been shaking a little bit.

Nice story huh, I outta be an author! LOL all joking aside she's actually pretty nice and I remember watching Roller Derby on tv years ago and it was half pro wrestler and half skater and they do this for alot of charity events as well as compete at the Fort Wayne Memorial Coliseum. They have a website and I told her I'd help promote them by posting their website: http://www.fwderbygirls.com .

And the chassis is supposed to be done around Christmas, so I've gotta get humpin at paintin parts.

Thanks to Dave Mozzello(not sure if I spelled it right) we now have the seat belt harness. I bought the safety toggle switch and a push button switch for the dash today. I'm still looking for a round indicator light that will fit a 3/4 inch hole. I didn't have any luck at Advance Auto Parts or Autozone, or Menards. I even tried Kendall Electric, I'll try Radio Shack next. I got the first coat of red paint on the fuel cell box and got the dash primed. Got the fill neck mounted to the fuel cell plate and bought a gas cap. Thanks to Concept Cars Inc. with Kale Asztalos for welding up the neck to an aluminum plate and then I drilled the holes in the cell plate and the filler neck and bolted them together.
